Private Tour 'Old City Center & Jewish Heritage'
Stories of history, loss, and resilience in the heart of Amsterdam
Explore Amsterdam’s old city center and Jewish Cultural Quarter on this walking tour through layers of the city’s past. We’ll trace the rich history of the Jewish community in Amsterdam—from their arrival in the 17th century, through times of cultural growth and contribution, to the devastating impact of World War II.
You’ll hear personal and historical stories—some from guides with an Amsterdam Jewish background, who may share their own family histories. The Holocaust hit the Netherlands harder than nearly any other country in Western Europe. But this story is not only one of loss—it’s also about resilience, resistance, and memory.
Along the way, we’ll pass key landmarks and lesser-known places: from the former Jewish Quarter to hidden memorials and a historic bar that once served as a refuge during the war (when open). You’ll hear about acts of quiet defiance, survival, and the enduring spirit of a community.
The tour can end with an optional (un-guided) visit to the Portuguese Synagogue, Holocaust Memorial, or Jewish Museum—giving you the chance to reflect and explore more at your own pace.
This is a deeply personal, meaningful experience—part history walk, part storytelling, part remembrance.
